Prof. Dr. David Bates served for 25 years as the Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine and Primary Care at Brigham and Women's Hospital and is currently the Medical Director of Clinical and Quality Analysis, Information Systems at Mass General Brigham.
He also codirects the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Bioinformatics in the Learning Healthcare System (CAIBILS) across Mass General Brigham.
He is a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Professor of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where he is the Co-Director of the Program in Clinical Effectiveness.
He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and edits the Journal of Patient Safety.
Dr. Bates is an internationally recognized and respected expert in the field of patient safety and he led the SafeCare Study.
His primary informatics focus concerns the use of information technology to measure and improve the quality of care within the field of safety.
